Privacy Policy

      The short version: FinancialOS is a local application. Your financial data
      never touches our servers. We don't track you, sell your data, or run ads.
      The only information that leaves your device is your license key, used once
      to verify your purchase. Our website counts page views, using no cookies and
      storing nothing that could identify you. Section 3 explains exactly how.
    

1. What FinancialOS is

FinancialOS is a personal finance dashboard that runs entirely on your own device. It is sold as a one-time purchase through Gumroad, as a native app for Mac and for Windows. The same license also unlocks a free companion app for iPhone on the App Store, and an Android version currently in beta testing on Google Play. The same privacy practices described below apply to every version.

2. Data the app does NOT collect

This section is about the FinancialOS application itself. For what our website measures, see section 3 below.

From the app, we do not collect, store, or have any access to:

Your financial data (income, expenses, accounts, transactions, net worth, or retirement information)
Your name, address, or personal identifiers
Usage analytics or behavioral data
Crash reports or telemetry
Your IP address or location

The FinancialOS app contains no analytics scripts, no tracking pixels, and no third-party advertising code of any kind.

3. Our website: a page counter, and nothing more

Our home page at getfinancialos.com counts page views, so we can tell whether anyone is finding the site. We think you should know exactly what that involves, so here it is in full.

Each time the page loads, it sends three things to a server we run ourselves:

Which event happened: the page loaded, the page was scrolled halfway, or a purchase link was clicked
The page address, without any query string
The website that linked you here, reduced to a bare domain name such as "google.com" before it is stored

We deliberately do not store, and cannot recover:

Your IP address
Any cookie, browser storage entry, fingerprint, or visitor identifier
Your browser, device, screen size, or country

      Because nothing identifies a browser, we can count views but not
      visitors. One person visiting five times is indistinguishable from
      five people visiting once. We accepted that limitation on purpose: it is the reason
      the data cannot be tied back to you.
    

This counter runs on our own Cloudflare Worker. No analytics company, advertising network, or other third party receives the data, and there is nothing here to sell, because nothing collected refers to a person. The counter runs on our home page only. This page and our Terms of Service are not measured at all.

The FinancialOS application does not contain this counter, or any other. Nothing you do inside the app is measured, transmitted, or seen by us.

4. Your financial data: where it lives

When you use FinancialOS, you choose where your data is saved. All three options keep your data entirely under your control:

Google Drive: Data is saved to a private, hidden folder in your own Google account (the AppData folder). Only FinancialOS can access this folder, it is not visible in your regular Drive and cannot be accessed by us or any other application. Your data is subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
Local file: Data is saved to a JSON file on your computer in a location you choose. It never leaves your device unless you move it yourself.
Inside the app: Data is saved in the app's own storage on that one device, with no setup required. This is the default on first launch.

In all three cases, we have no ability to access, view, or retrieve your financial data.

5. License key validation

When you activate FinancialOS with your license key, the app sends two pieces of information to our license validation service (hosted on Cloudflare Workers):

Your license key (to verify it is a valid purchase)
A randomly generated device identifier stored on your device (to track how many devices have activated the same key, up to the allowed limit)

The license key is verified against Gumroad's purchase records. No financial data, personal information, or usage data is transmitted during this process. The device identifier is anonymous and cannot be used to identify you.

6. Google Drive authorization

If you choose Google Drive as your storage method, FinancialOS requests permission to access only the Application Data folder in your Google account, a private, sandboxed area that other applications and users cannot see. We request the minimum scope necessary (drive.appdata) and do not request access to any other files in your Google Drive.

You can revoke this access at any time from your Google Account permissions page.

How we use Google data: FinancialOS uses the drive.appdata permission for a single purpose: to save and load your own FinancialOS data file to and from the private Application Data folder in your Google account, so you can sync it across your devices. We do not read, collect, transmit, or store this data on our own servers, and we do not use it for any other purpose.

Limited Use disclosure: FinancialOS's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not transfer or sell Google user data to third parties, use it for advertising, or allow humans to read it, except as required for security purposes, to comply with applicable law, or as part of operations that you have explicitly authorized.

7. Purchase information

Purchases are processed by Gumroad. We receive notification that a sale occurred and the associated license key, but we do not receive or store your payment details, credit card information, or billing address. Please refer to Gumroad's Privacy Policy for details on how they handle purchase data.

8. Children's privacy

FinancialOS is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect any information from children.

9. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of FinancialOS after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
