Do I need an internet connection?
Only for the initial license activation and if you choose Google Drive sync. The app runs entirely offline after that.
Where is my data stored?
You choose on first launch, and you can switch anytime. Three options: automatically inside the app (the zero-setup default, saved on your computer and kept between sessions, on that one machine); a local file you save and manage (export to a JSON file you keep wherever you like, portable, fully yours, doubles as a backup); or Google Drive (synced to your own private Google account, so your data follows you across all your devices). Whichever you choose, your financial data never touches our servers.
Will I lose my data if I close the app or restart my computer?
No. Your data is saved locally and persists across closing the app, relaunching, and reboots. The one thing to know: the app's automatic storage lives on a single machine, so if you want your data on more than one computer, or a safety copy in case a machine is lost, turn on Google Drive sync or save a local file now and then. Both take a few seconds.
Does it connect to my bank?
No. FinancialOS doesn't connect to any bank or financial institution. You enter data manually or import CSV statements. No bank credentials, no third-party API risk.
What's the difference between this and Mint / YNAB?
Those are subscription services that store your data on their servers. FinancialOS is a one-time purchase that runs locally. Built for people who want full control and privacy.
Can I use it on multiple computers?
Yes, each license supports up to 4 devices. With Google Drive storage, your data syncs automatically across all of them.
Is there a mobile app?
Yes. A free FinancialOS companion for iPhone is on the
App Store. Buy once for Mac or Windows, then unlock the iPhone app with the same license key. There is no separate purchase and no account, and your data stays local with optional Google Drive sync. An Android version is in beta testing on Google Play (see below).
Is there an Android version?
Android is in beta testing on Google Play. Like the iPhone app, it is free with your license: buy once for Mac or Windows and unlock the phone with the same key. Because it is a testing track you join it through an invite link, so if you already own a license, email
support@getfinancialos.com and we will add you. Want to try Android before buying? Email the same address and we will send you a tester key.
What are the system requirements?
The Mac app runs on Apple Silicon (M1 or later), macOS 13 (Ventura) or later, notarized by Apple and updating itself automatically. The Windows app runs on Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit). Both are native apps that install in one step and work fully offline. A free companion app is also available for iPhone on the App Store, and Android is in beta testing on Google Play.
Is there a refund policy?
Yes, 30-day money-back guarantee, no questions asked. Email support@getfinancialos.com and we'll process it within 24 hours.
